G2 Esports is facing an unexpected change as rifler Nemanja "huNter-" Kovac will be unable to join the team for the start of PGL Astana 2025. In his absence, the team coach Wiktor "TaZ" Wojtas will step in as a replacement. The organization cited visa issues as the reason for huNter-'s absence in their official statement.
While there is a possibility for huNter- to rejoin the team later in the tournament, the exact timeline remains uncertain. As of now, he will be missing the crucial 'starting matches' of the event. Fortunately, due to the Swiss format of the tournament, G2 Esports will not face elimination until at least May 12. Should the team progress, they will have a window of 2-4 days after the group stage for huNter- to return before the playoffs.
This roster adjustment is not unfamiliar territory for TaZ, who previously stood in for G2 Esports at BLAST Premier: Spring Final 2024 when m0NESY faced similar visa challenges. Despite the setback, the team will look to overcome this hurdle and deliver strong performances in the upcoming matches.
PGL Astana 2025 is set to take place from May 10 to 18, hosted on LAN in Kazakhstan, with 16 teams competing for a significant share of the $625k prize pool. The revamped G2 lineup will make their debut against MIBR, with the match scheduled to kick off at 10:00 CEST.
