G2 Esports Rumored to Make a Comeback in Dota 2 with Chinese Roster

Rumors are circulating that G2 Esports is considering a return to the Dota 2 scene, with plans to sign the Chinese roster Gaozu, which includes the renowned carry player Wang 'Ame' Chunyu. The speculation was sparked by well-known Russian caster and insider Maelstorm, who shared the news on the popular messaging platform, Telegram.

Reportedly, G2's interest in the new roster hinged on their performance in the regional qualifiers for ESL One Bangkok 2024. The team's victory over Xtreme Gaming in the final match secured their placement at the prestigious tournament. Following this success, Maelstorm reiterated his earlier comments, hinting that an official announcement from G2 Esports could be expected soon.

Prior to this potential comeback, G2 Esports had a collaborative venture with Invictus Gaming in the Dota 2 scene. Operating as G2.iG between December 2023 and October 2024, the joint squad failed to make a significant impact in the competitive scene.

ESL One Bangkok 2024 is scheduled to take place from December 9 to 15 in Thailand, offering a prize pool of $1 million along with valuable EPT points up for grabs. Further details about the participating teams can be found here.
